Rangers are believed to be keeping tabs on a striker with Mick Beale already potentially looking to bring in a new player to Ibrox following the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

According to Football League World, Rangers – as well as their Old Firm rivals – are reportedly ‘waiting in the wings’ amid Ross Stewart’s ongoing contract situation with his current club potentially set to sanction an exit in January if the 26-year-old does not pen a new deal.
The report suggests that the Sunderland man is yet to agree to an extension despite having been offered a lucrative deal, with the forward’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
That could see any interested party potentially wrap up a deal in the winter window as the Championship outfit look to avoid losing their star man for nothing, with the Gers having previously been linked with a move during the summer.
Beale’s first masterstroke
Incoming boss Mick Beale can seemingly do what his predecessor Van Bronckhorst could not and bring the two-cap gem to Glasgow in the New Year, with it potentially set to prove the 42-year-old’s first real masterstroke if he can get the 6 foot 2 ace in the door.
The striking berth has been no doubt something of a problem for the Light Blues in recent times, with former talisman Alfredo Morelos having scored just three goals in all competitions so far this term, amid growing doubts over the Colombian’s future at the club due to his expiring contract.
The 26-year-old’s woes have seen summer signing Antonio Colak deployed through the middle for much of the campaign to date, although despite the Croatia international’s prolific form – with 14 goals so far this season – there are still doubts over his suitability, with journalist Mark McDougall stating that he “offers very little in the build-up“.
That could well ensure that a fresh face is needed to lead the line in Beale’s attack, with Stewart having more than shown his credentials amid his sparkling form for his current side in recent times, having netted 34 goals and registered eight assists in just 72 games for the northeast side to date.
That includes a haul of five goals and three assists in just seven games in England’s second tier so far this term, having previously scored 26 times to help fire the club to promotion from League One last season.
Such form has seen the one-time St Mirren man lauded as a “revelation” and a player who “has everything” by teammate Alex Pritchard, with the hope being that he can go on to replicate such heroics if he is snapped up by Beale and co in the near future.
Having scored 16 goals less in the top flight than Ange Postecoglou’s league leaders, the addition of another menacing forward could well be vital in trying to bridge the gap at the summit. Indeed, it would be a real masterclass to bring in such a clinical asset.
