An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their chances of landing target Nicolas Raskin ahead of the January transfer window…
What’s the talk?
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the Gers could be gifted an opportunity to sign the gem as his club are having problems with tying him down to a contract extension.
Should Rangers sign Nicolas Raskin?
Yes
No
He told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s a good midfielder Raskin. I think he’s having a bit of a contract wrangle at the minute with Standard Liege, so that’s maybe opening the door for Rangers to steal in and lure him away from the club.”
His current deal with the Belgian side expires at the end of the season and this means that the Gers could snap him up on a pre-contract agreement next month.
Imagine him & John Lundstram
Michael Beale and Ross Wilson must make the most of this potential opening by attempting to sign the midfielder, either in January or next summer, as he could be a terrific addition to the squad.
Raskin could form an impressive partnership with current Gers gem John Lundstram, as both of them are number eights who can have an impact at both ends of the pitch.
In the Premiership this season, the Englishman has averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.24 across 15 appearances – making 2.4 tackles and interceptions per match and scoring four goals in total.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Liege dynamo has made 3.7 tackles and interceptions per outing and created four goals for his teammates in 16 Pro League games. This comes after he managed 3.3 defensive interventions per match and assisted four strikes in 29 clashes last term.
Belgian journalist Bob Faesen previously heaped praise on the midfielder prior to him facing the Light Blues in Europe, saying: “He is still only 19, but he has really shone. He is a box-to-box midfielder. He can play in every position in the middle of the park. He is technically gifted, but he is also a bit of a pitbull.
“He can run a lot, is powerful and has a good shot. He has been one of the big surprises in Belgium football this season and will be a key player for Liege who Rangers will need to be wary of.”
Raskin, 21, has the potential to improve further and has already shown plenty of signs of promise in the Belgian top flight. He is a midfielder who can win the ball back off the opposition whilst also having the ability to pick out a pass and unlock a defence.
Meanwhile, Lundstram has proven that he can be a monster in the middle of the park for the Gers in the Premiership by making tackles and interceptions and then making an impact at the top end of the pitch by using his power to smash in goals.
Now, imagine both of them lining up in light blue shirts in the second half of the season…
