Colorado’s Front Range residents are known for their love of the outdoors, so it should come as no surprise the state has a commitment to preserving and promoting outdoor recreation. An extensive network of neighborhood trails winds through various communities and provides residents with a unique opportunity to connect with nature, in many cases, right at their doorstep. Explore the outdoors and stay active in some of these most sought-after neighborhoods in Colorado’s Front Range.

The Canyons, Castle Pines

Situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, those living in The Canyons regularly wake up to a glorious Colorado sunrise and enjoy watching vibrant sunsets over the mountains. The community sits in a picturesque setting offering a myriad of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to explore and stay active. With almost a third of the community dedicated to parks, trails, and open spaces. Exploration awaits.

The Canyons offers 15 miles of paved and dirt trails, for biking, hiking, running, or walking. There are several shorter paths that lead to a larger trailhead, allowing for a quick outing or a longer stay on the trail if time allows. Being out on the trails fosters physical and mental well-being, promoting a healthier and happier community.

Centennial

Residents of Centennial can explore the Dry Creek Trail, a multi-use path that meanders through its neighborhoods and provides a peaceful setting for outdoor activities. Each community has its own unique charm and individual offerings, making it easy for residents to find a home that suits their preferences and provides a welcoming space for outdoor enjoyment.

Heron Lakes, Northern Colorado

The Heron Lakes community was designed with a commitment to preserving the region’s natural beauty and wildlife. Home to one of the largest Great Blue Heron Rookeries in the state of Colorado, Heron Lakes boasts over 130 acres of permanent open space to support the natural wildlife. in the community.

There are 8.7 miles of maintained trails for hikers, bikers, runners, and walkers. These trails allow for use at various distances, linking together throughout the community. In addition, Heron Lakes offers 4.5 miles of shoreline along three reservoirs, providing breathtaking scenery.

The Highlands/Sloan’s Lake, Denver

This area, including Lower Highlands (LoHi) and Sloan’s Lake, features the popular Highland Canal Trail and Sloan’s Lake Park, providing scenic routes for walking, running, and biking.

Trails serve as a social hub for residents as they become a place to meet neighbors, socialize with friends and strengthen community bonds. With a plethora of delicious restaurants in the area, a walk around the lake and an afternoon drink on a rooftop patio is a perfect activity to enjoy with friends or neighbors during the warmer months.

 Historic Golden

The historic town of Golden is located 20 minutes west of Denver. The Clear Creek Trail runs through the heart of the city and offers a unique opportunity for leaf peeping in the fall, as well as walking, running, or biking along the path while listening to the running waters of the creek below. Stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Colorado landscape make this a perfect place to get out and about. Make a stop at the Golden History Park located along the trail, grab brunch after a morning jog, or walk the trail with friends and finish with a visit to a local craft brewery.

Colorado’s neighborhood trails are more than just pathways through nature; they are the threads weaving together the diverse communities that make up the Denver metro area. As the city continues to grow, the importance of these trails in fostering a sense of community, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and contributing to environmental awareness cannot be overstated.
