Hollywood really is a small world after all!
On Sunday night, Austin Butler was riding the high of his Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of the King of Rock & Roll in 2022’s Elvis — but after the ceremony was perhaps on the comedown since he didn’t actually win. But standing right there next to him for the last bit of his consolation? Vanessa Hudgens, whom he dated from 2011 to 2020!

If you tuned in, you may have seen the Disney child star co-hosting ABC’s Countdown to the Oscars pre-show alongside model Ashley Graham and social media star Lilly Singh. Lucky for her, she wasn’t tasked with interviewing her ex-lover. However, when it came to the Vanity Fair Oscar party held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, there was no producer to schedule someone else in her place!
It’s unclear just when they ran into one another, but the two were spotted outside of the venue, standing side-by-side next to Hollywood vet Sharon Stone. Austin could be seen in a black coat over a satin top, while Vanessa was seen in a sleek bun, with her signature butterfly neck tattoo on full display. See (below):

According to DailyMail.com, this was the end of the evening for both, when they were both awaiting the valets with their respective cars. Is it possible they managed to avoid one another the whole party only to leave at the exact same time?! Or were they able to keep it cordial earlier, enough to walk out together?
Surely it must have been at least a BIT awkward. After all, Vanessa seemed awfully put out that Austin was leaving her name out of the story of how he ended up playing Elvis. Heck, it sounds like she was responsible for him being at the party that night in the first place!

But hey, their nine long years are all in the past now, right? Austin is currently dating Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. He was spotted with her earlier in the night, in fact — she just wasn’t there at this particular moment. On the other hand, Vanessa is engaged to MLB star Cole Tucker, who was seemingly absent from the coveted awards ceremony altogether. So they just happened to end up alone-ish together.
Hey, it’s part of the game, right? It’s no secret that the Academy Awards brings out all of the Hollywood A-listers, so when you date in the pool, you’re bound to bump into an old ex every now and then… But that doesn’t make it any less awkward!
