What stores are open on Christmas?

Many stores will be closed on Christmas Day after having limited hours on Christmas Eve.

WASHINGTON — While most grocery and big box stores will be closed on Christmas morning, you’re not completely out of luck if you need to run out to pick up a last-minute gift or forgot a key ingredient for your holiday recipe. 

And while many major retailers and grocery stores will be open on Christmas Eve this year, a lot of those stores are planning to close early on Sunday, Dec. 24. 

If you want a cup of coffee or last-minute groceries on Christmas Day, there are some stores that will be open, but expect limited hours at those that stay open.

Starbucks, Dunkin’, McDonald’s, Denny’s, IHOP and Waffle House locations will be open, though it’s best to call ahead and double check with your local store before showing up. 

Stores open on Christmas Day

  • 7-Eleven (Most stores are open 24/7 (including on Christmas), but some locations’ hours can vary) 
  • CVS (Many CVS Pharmacy locations will operate with normal hours on Christmas, but some non-24 locations may be closed or have reduced hours.) 
  • Dunkin’
  • Giant
  • McDonald’s
  • Rite Aid
  • Starbucks (Many Starbucks locations will be open on Christmas, but hours can vary)
  • Walgreens (Most Walgreens stores will have adjusted hours of 9am-5pm on Christmas Day. All 24-hour locations will continue to remain open. You can double-check local hours here.) 

Store hours may vary by locations. Double check the times in advance at your nearest location to confirm hours. 

Is Walmart open on Christmas? 

The country’s largest retailer is closed on Christmas Day. Stores will be open on Christmas Eve, but most locations will close at 6 p.m. local time. 

Is Target open on Christmas?

No, Target stores are not open on Christmas Day. Most stores are open from 7 a.m. to midnight through Dec. 23 and from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve. All stores will reopen at their regular times on Dec. 26. 

Is Starbucks open on Christmas?

Many Starbucks locations will be open on Christmas, but hours can vary — with the company noting that “stores may occasionally adjust their hours based on business and customer needs” throughout the holiday season. It’s best to check ahead online.

Is McDonald’s open on Christmas? 

Most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. are open on holidays like Christmas, but hours vary by location. Consumers can use the chain’s online store locator to confirm.

Is Costco open on Christmas?

No, Costco locations are not open on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023. 

What are Safeway’s Christmas hours?

Most Safeway stores will be open on Christmas Eve with reduced hours. Check your local store for details.

Some Safeway stores will be closed on Christmas Day. Locations that stay open will close early.

Is Kroger open on Christmas?

Kroger announced it will close its stores on Christmas in 2023. 

The Kroger brand includes Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, and Smith’s Food and Drug.

Is Giant open on Christmas?

Most Giant locations will be open on Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but a handful of locations will be closed and the pharmacies at most locations will not be open. Giant stores will be open on Christmas Eve from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Is Aldi closed on Christmas?

Aldi stores will be closed on Christmas Day, but stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. 

Are Food Lion stores closed on Christmas?

Food Lion stores will be open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All Food Lion stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
