There has been nothing like the current Supreme Court in the nation’s history. It is actively and openly partisan, and spurred by the far-right campaign to disempower and disenfranchise the American people.
Unhinged from judicial standards, this court has dismantled decades of hard-fought gains made by the American people. The spurious rulings by this rogue court have resulted in civil rights being weakened, voting rights impaired, personal health choices denied and affirmative action being eliminated.
None of this is surprising given that three of the current justices were appointed by a president who tried to overthrow the government, and a fourth is married to a woman who participated in the planning of the overthrow.
We narrowly averted disaster on Jan. 6, 2021, but the threats to our democracy remain, in the form of a Supreme Court that wants to change the very meaning of democracy to a government of the chosen by the chosen.
What was once a respectable institution has transformed into an unabashed, openly partisan body which caters to the needs and wishes of the elite.
