A Spirit Airways jetliner from Florida was hit by gunfire with one flight attendant struggling minor accidents whereas the airplane was making a touchdown in Port-au-Prince in Haiti Monday. Flight 951 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Port-au-Prince was diverted and landed safely in neighboring Dominican Republic, Spirit mentioned in an announcement.
An on-the-ground inspection revealed injury to the plane “per gunfire,” it added.
“No visitor accidents have been reported,” Spirit Airways mentioned, including that its service to Haiti has been suspended pending additional analysis.
The broken plane was taken out of service and Spirit was arranging for passengers to be returned to Fort Lauderdale on Monday. The airport in Port-au-Prince has grounded all industrial flights, the Miami Herald reported.
After the gun assault, American Airways introduced it was suspending its flight service between Miami and Haiti’s capital till Thursday.
The US Embassy in Port-au-Prince mentioned it’s conscious of gang-led efforts to dam journey to and from the town, which can embody armed violence and disruption to roads, ports and airports.
The gunfire incident comes as Haiti is ready to swear in a brand new prime minister amid a brand new energy battle that threatens to plunge the impoverished, crisis-wracked nation into contemporary chaos. Haiti’s transitional council has moved to interchange Prime Minister Garry Conille, in accordance with an official gazette bulletin seen Sunday by AFP.
