Tottenham suffered an injury scare on an otherwise fine Champions League night as Son Heung-min was forced off with a head injury.
Spurs had to battle back from a goal down in the south of France, with goals from Clement Lenglet and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg eventually securing a 2-1 win that saw them qualify for the knockout stages as group winners.
However, it wasn’t all good news as influential South Korean star Son suffered a nasty blow to the head in the first half. Son challenged for a header with former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba, who seemed to catch him with his shoulder.
After a lengthy stoppage, a clearly dazed and rattled Son was helped off the pitch leaving Spurs to worry about how long any absence might be.
“I enjoyed it when we won,” Tottenham assistant Cristian Stellini said while standing in for Antonio Conte for the post-match media duties.
Conte himself was serving a touchline ban following the controversial game against Sporting Lisbon last week, and Stellini says that had taken it’s toll on the Italian.
“I spoke with Antonio,” he said. “He’s tired because to watch from the crowd is not normal. He wasted a lot of energy. It’s better to stay on the touchline because you live the game like the players are doing.”
