I don’t really know how you debate this one.
“I think it’s right” “I think it’s wrong” “ok”.
Like it’s basically 100% the values you bring in that determine how you feel about it. The people who are for it aren’t going to have their minds changed even if they hear it doesn’t decrease crime, or whatever. And the people who are against it wouldn’t be for it if they were told it did. And that’s assuming everyone agreed on what the numbers meant.
Of course, they will make all sorts of rhetorical appeals to emotion, but we should avoid putting any stock in such “debates”.
