The midfielder is targeting a long and successful career with the Reds.

Ryan Gravenberch has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.

The club announced on Saturday that the midfielder had agreed to fresh terms, having impressed for the Reds since joining from Bayern Munich in September 2023.

Gravenberch has made 123 appearances for Liverpool, scoring eight goals and winning two major trophies.

He helped them to EFL Cup glory in 2024, while his development under Arne Slot last season was critical to Liverpool cantering to the Premier League title in 2024-25, though they were denied a second successive EFL Cup crown by Newcastle United.

Gravenberch aiming for long and successful Liverpool stay

Gravenberch’s initial deal was due to expire in 2028, but he did not need any convincing to extend his stay beyond that.

“I feel really, really good,” Gravenberch told Liverpoolfc.com. “I was really proud to extend my contract at such a big club. So, I’m really happy that I can stay for many more years.

“I felt directly the trust from the club, also from the manager. The decision for me was easy to make. My family is also happy here. We are now here almost three years, so I know everything already. I’m happy that I’m here.

“For the short term, [my aim is to] end the season as good as possible. And for the long term: win many more trophies with Liverpool.

“I have a really nice relationship with [the fans]. Always when I do something good in the stadium I hear them singing my chant.

“I’m really grateful for the supporters because without them we would not be where we are now. In the future, we want to give them many more [trophies], so hopefully we can get that done.”

Gravenberch becoming a greater goalscoring threat

Gravenberch has primarily been known for his work as a defensive midfielder who excels at winning possession. He had 56 interceptions in the Premier League last season, the third-most in the division, and showed promise in terms of the development of the creative side of his game, as he laid on four assists.

The Dutchman did not find the net in 2024-25, but he ended his drought this term, and has become more of a threat even as Liverpool have struggled for consistency in Slot’s second season in charge.

Indeed, Gravenberch has scored four goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this term, while also registering a further three assists in other competitions, creating two goals in the Champions League, with his latest coming in Friday’s 3-1 FA Cup win at Wolves.

Gravenberch teed up Curtis Jones to curl home Liverpool’s third goal from the edge of the area as the Reds overcame a team that had stunned them in the Premier League three days prior to progress to the last eight of the cup.

Despite all the criticism Slot has received, Liverpool still have a chance to make it a very successful season. They can still win the FA Cup and the Champions League, and remain in a decent position to challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Gravenberch will be key to those short-term ambitions and their long-term future.
