Railways suffered lack of Rs 259.44 crore throughout Agnipath protests says authorities

As a consequence of injury or destruction throughout Agnipath protests, Indian Railways has suffered an enormous loss. The federal government on Friday mentioned that the loss is of Rs 259.44 crore, as per IANS report.

In a reply in Rajya Sabha, Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw mentioned that in 2022, the Indian Railways suffered lack of Rs 259.44 crore on account of injury or destruction of railway property.

“Separate knowledge relating to the quantity of refund granted to passengers on account of disruption of rail providers on account of public dysfunction consequent to agitation like these held after launching of Agnipath scheme is just not maintained. Nonetheless, in the course of the interval June 14 to 30, a complete refund of roughly Rs 102.96 crore was granted on account of cancellation of trains,” Vaishnaw mentioned.

The Railway Minister informed the Home that `Police` and `Public Order` are state topics beneath the Seventh Schedule to the Structure of India.

“Due to this fact, state governments are liable for prevention, detection, registration and investigation of crime and upkeep of regulation and order on Railways via their regulation enforcement businesses viz. Authorities Railway Police (GRP)/ District Police,” he mentioned.

The Minister additional informed the Rajya Sabha that Railway Safety Pressure (RPF) dietary supplements the efforts of GRP/District Police to supply higher safety and safety to railway property, passenger space and passengers and for issues related therewith.

Instances of harm, destruction of presidency property together with railway property are registered and investigated by the involved GRP/ State Police beneath IPC and Railways Act.
