Makabu vs Jack – Round 12

Final round! Makabu’s corner tells him that he needs to put down Jack in this round!

He leans into a left hook to the body. Now he pops Jack with jabs, but Jack comes back with a heavy, heavy right hand!

Makabu wobbles backwards, and Jack smells blood! He pours on a spiteful combination, with Makabu backed up against the ropes, and the referee steps in!

Jack is the new WBC cruiserweight champion – a three-weight world champion across his career now!

Makabu vs Jack – Round 11

Jack sends Makabu lolloping to the canvas with a solid right hand!!

The champion beats the official’s count and does his usual, trying to fight back.

But it’s gettting harder and harder for the South African. Jack with a heavy body shot then a clubbing right hook upstairs!

Makabu is stumbling. More accurate shots from Jack. Somehow Makabu survives more stun-gun right hands.

He comes forward with jabs; Jack circles away.

Makabu vs Jack – Round 10

More pressure from Makabu, who then lands two counter left hooks.

Now Jack comes back with two right crosses, as Makabu slouches against the ropes!

But the champion fires back to keep the challenger off him. He slings a hard left hook to the waist of Jack.

Snapping jab from Makabu now. Jack with an uppercut, hook and cross! Great work late in the round!

Again, though, Makabu increases his activity in response!

Another southpaw left cross lands for Makabu. He then wings a left overhand but misses the target.

Jack times a right uppercut nicely as Makabu crouches. The champion responds with a tidy jab.

Two lefts land for Makabu in quick succession. He then backs up Jack.

Both men connect with huge shots on the bell!

Makabu vs Jack – Round 8

Both men trade a series of sharp punches now. Jack’s footwork is slicker than the champion’s at the moment, however.

A short right hand lands for Jack, right on the chin of Makabu. The cruiserweights then exchange uppercuts in close.

Strong cross to the body by Jack. Again he’s backed up by Makabu, however.

Jack does the better work, as Makabu looks increasingly tired.

Makabu again gets on the front foot, stemming the tide for a while.

Southpaw Makabu is still pressing forward, but Jack is the more sprightly fighter right now.

The champion lands a left uppercut in close, then a cross with the same hand.

Now Jack connects with a clean uppercut! Makabu responds by targeting the body of his challenger.

Makabu vs Jack – Round 4

Mike Tyson is interviewed at ringside between rounds, with his voice broadcast around the arena. Very odd, especially as the interview ends after the next round has begun.

Makabu is really growing into this bout. He gets on the front foot and throws an uppercut to the body, then a left hook to the head as Jack covers up.

The fighters trade simultaneous hooks, and Makabu hits the canvas! The champion beats the referee’s count, but he needs to fight sensibly in this final minute of the round.

Makabu throws a couple of clubbing right hooks now.

Makabu vs Jack – Round 3

Makabu tries to respond to Jack’s tactic in kind, targeting the body of his challenger.

The South African burrows a left hook into Jack’s ribs. Still, Jack is light on his feet.

But Makabu lands hooks off both wings, and Jack briefly retreats!

Makabu just misses with an uppercut now, as Jack leans back to evade.
