I wanted to share a very insightful and interesting commentary I stumbled upon on why the rumors of Meta’s demise maybe greatly exaggerated.
I personally found the following resonated with me strongly:
The human need for connection isn’t going away.
Meta’s core business numbers (growth and engagement) remain healthy.
Although Apple’s privacy move hurt Meta the most, it hurt the entire ads industry. More importantly however, it actually is making Meta invest more in technology (AI) that could further entrench it in the targeted ads business. Long term, it might actually benefit Meta.
The Metaverse investment being the nail in a coffin is a perception problem. Yes, the Metaverse investments could very well be a waste of money. The tech is many years too early and we won’t know for a while. However, the $ spent here is a very small portion in the big scheme of things despite what clickbaity “OMG The Metaverse is a failure, Facebook is dead” articles may say .
Curious to hear your thoughts.
