Join an Online Film Club Called ‘Galerie’ Curated by Many Filmmakers

“Great cinema is all around us… but in this ever-changing landscape it can be difficult to find [it] when navigating algorithms.” You may have missed it when it first launched last year, so here’s a 2024 update for anyone interested. There’s a new online film club called Galerie that is worth joining if you’re a cinephile like us. Galerie is a new film club and publication created by Indian Paintbrush, the production company behind Wes Anderson’s films. They describe themselves as: “Galerie is a cinema club built by today’s most celebrated filmmakers. Personally shaped by award-winning artists, it combines film collections, original interviews, essays and live experiences into a single destination.” It only costs $10 per month to join and includes plenty of fresh video content, not just text and essays, much more than that. “A new curator every month, in-depth essays, original videos and exclusive live events.” It’s cool to see something new & exciting in the online realm – and if this concept interests you, might as well sign-up & see what they’ve got to offer.

It was created by the film production company called Indian Paintbrush, founded in 2006 by Steven Rales – they have produced and financed all of Wes Anderson’s films since 2007. “We envisioned Galerie as an oasis inhabited by people who value substance over abundance, where curiosity can thrive and meaningful conversation is given the space to grow.” There’s places to watch selected films, read essays, engage in conversations & discussions, and more. Guest curators they’ve already worked with so far include Ethan Hawke, Lukas Dhont, Mike Mills, Karyn Kusama, Chai Vasarhelyi, Ed Lachman. “Galeria as a unique sanctuary for discovering cinema differently. Galerie offers the opportunity to explore the indelible contributions of those more and less visible in the filmmaking endeavor, as well as an avenue to converse and learn about the many attributes of this cherished medium.” They are planning to launch apps on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Android soon, but for now it’s all on the website.
