Six months after tying the knot with actor Ben Affleck, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez is ready to part with her sprawling Bel-Air estate for $42.5 million.
Records show that the “On the Floor” singer and “Shotgun Wedding” star bought the Los Angeles estate from actress Sela Ward and her husband, entrepreneur Howard Sherman, in 2016 for $28 million – arguably, a smart move since the original asking price in 2015 was $40 million.
Lopez reimagined the 13,000-square-foot residence with help from famed architect Samuel Marx. The resulting aesthetic is a French Country estate nestled in expansive grounds that blend stone, wood, and other natural elements.
Warm wood accents on the exterior welcome visitors to the gated enclave that is minutes away from the celebrated Bel-Air Hotel.
The main level of the nine-bedroom main home features a two-story living room with a curved staircase with wrought-iron railings. In addition to high ceilings, there is a bar, a fireplace, and steel windows and doors that open to a stone terrace with calming greenery. The estate’s outdoor living spaces are filled with native trees, bushes and plants.
The property, listed with Brett Lawyer of Carolwood Estates, features a formal dining room with a stunning chandelier and a chef’s kitchen with wood-beamed ceilings. A rustic breakfast area includes a stone fireplace and golden tones warm the space.
A multi-purpose family room has a bar and a terrace that leads to a private garden and a three-sided infinity pool.
The primary suite has multiple dressing rooms, an elegant dream closet, a library, a fireplace (yes, another one) and a luxurious spa-like bathroom designed with a center-piece tub that looks out toward a private terrace (yes, another one, really) and offers gorgeous views of the home’s lush landscape.
In addition to a guest cottage, the expansive grounds feature private hiking trails, a pagoda with a firepit, a vegetable garden, a large motor court with ample parking, and an entertainment pavilion with a full kitchen and a private lake with a sandy beach with an outdoor shower. There is a putting green for golf lovers and a 100-seat outdoor theater that one lucky buyer or Bennifer fan can imagine has been the venue for an impromptu concert – or two – with J.Lo and friends (one can dream, right?).
Back in the main house, a lower level boasts a 30-seat screening room that showcases movie posters for several films in which Lopez and her Academy Award-winning hubby have starred.
Speaking of movies, Affleck is set to release “Air” in April. “Air,” which tells the story of basketball great Michael Jordan, Nike and the all-star sports shoe that made history, will be Affleck’s fifth directorial feature. However, many fans are rumored to be waiting for the Feb. 12 Super Bowl ad on Fox featuring the power couple at a drive-through at a Dunkin’ Donuts near Boston. According to People magazine, Lopez will join Affleck in the ad, which though teased has yet to be released.
While Lopez has decided to move on from Bel Air, the listing notes highlight that the estate includes “plans for additional rooms” and “plans for another structure.” So the new owner can enjoy the former resident’s designs while adding a personal touch.
Lopez is not the only one in her family making real estate moves of late. In August, Affleck sold his Pacific Palisades bachelor pad for $28.5 million. According to public records, he bought the home for $19 million in 2018.
