DOZENS of newborn babies in incubators are facing a desperate plight trapped in a Gaza City hospital after Hamas refused Israel’s offer of fuel.

Military top brass contacted the Al-Shifa facility as fighting in the streets around it raged and agreed to leave 300 litres at an agreed drop-off point.

But Lt Col Richard Hecht, of Israel Defence Forces, said: “Sadly, the only thing standing between Shifa hospital and the fuel it needs is Hamas. It’s very cynical.

“If the fuel comes into the hospital they can operate the electricity for the incubators but sadly Hamas is meddling.

“It’s very tragic and sad. We are talking as much as we can to the hospital. It’s also a risk for them to speak to us.”

One doctor in the hospital said of the 37 infants: “We are expecting to lose more of them day by day.”

The IDF is convinced the Hamas terror command is located in tunnels beneath the Al-Shifa facility.

Two other hospitals have been evacuated.

Israeli fighter jets, meanwhile, struck Hezbollah terror targets today as tension built on its northern border with Lebanon.

Top guns destroyed military infrastructure following an earlier missile attack by the Iran-backed group critically injured one Israeli.

Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu told Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah getting involved would “be the mistake of your lives”.

He said there will be no ceasefire in Gaza until the release of the 240 Israeli hostages snatched by Hamas in their October 7 terror attacks which left 1,200 Jews dead.

Netanyahu hopes to appoint Tony Blair as a humanitarian coordinator for the Gaza Strip.

A spokesman for ex-PM Blair, once a Middle East peace envoy, did not deny he had been contacted.
