Elon Musk announces Twitter rebranded as X

Elon Musk has rebranded Twitter as X, a move that closer ties it to X Corp., the company Musk founded just this year.

Elon Musk is flipping the bird and turning it into an X, as he has announced that social media platform Twitter will now be rebranded as, yes, X. Unfortunately, this isn’t viral marketing to get D-Generation X back together, despite the vibes Musk is giving off:

Elon Musk seemed to spend the bulk of his Sunday promoting the name change on Twitter, tweeting – or warning? – that “X IS COMING”, adding, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”, which is absolutely a threat against all natural aviation. Musk also challenged his followers to come up with a logo for X, now that he’s sending the Twitter bird the way of the dodo. The logo – selected for the “minimalist art deco” look – is designed by Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt, who also cited the previous work of Alex Tourville.

Linda Yaccarino, who serves as CEO of Twitter and X Corp. (oh, noooow we get it!), tweeted this weekend, “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.”

The rebranding of Twitter to X will take some getting used to, with some wondering what tweets will now be called. Also, will prospective influencers tell followers, “Hey, I’m on X all the time!”? Whatever questions arise following the announcement, Mark Zuckerberg might want to sit out this round of criticism as his Threads platform has seen a massive drop in active users since launching earlier this month. With such a jarring change, will this be what scares Stephen King off of social media?

As of publication, the social media platform is worth around $15 billion, with Musk himself worth $236.5 billion. In other words, he can call it just about anything he wants…
