I flew from Las Vegas to California to attend a wedding. When I arrived, I discovered that I forgot to pack my insulin. I went to a CVS store and had them contact my doctor for a prescription. I wasn’t able to buy just one insulin pen and had to buy six. I ordinarily get mine free through my insurance. My copay this time was $10. I found out from the clerk that it would have otherwise cost me $400.
That night when I went to take my shot of insulin, I didn’t have the needles that come with the pens. The next day, I went back to buy needles. I was shocked to find that needles cost me $48 and my insurance paid the rest (whatever that was).
What an awakening this experience has been. The whole thing seems like a big rip-off. I feel sorry for people who can’t afford this.
Pharmacy companies are greedy and mercenary. It’s no wonder President Joe Biden is after them and wants to change things. Good luck to him: A lot of people hope he succeeds.
