David de Gea has won the Castrol Save of the Month award for February for his brilliant save in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
February proved to be a landmark month for the Spanish goalkeeper, with De Gea winning the Carabao Cup with Manchester United and surpassing Peter Schmeichel’s record clean sheet tally with his 181st clean sheet at the Red Devils.
One of said 181 clean sheets came in Man Utd’s emphatic 3-0 win over Leicester at Old Trafford on 19th February.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho got the goals on that day, but De Gea was as equally important making two saves that were worthy of Castrol Save of the Month nominations.
One of which was a quick reaction stop to deny Harvey Barnes when the forward was clean through on goal, and the other was so good it won the Castrol Save of the Month award.
The award-winning save came when Kelechi Iheanacho headed the ball down toward the bottom left corner of the net, and De Gea was able to dive across his goal line to miraculously palm the ball clear of danger with his right hand.
Other nominees for the February Castrol Save of the Month award included Alisson Becker, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
