I’m generally drawn to anything that invokes emotion, and I feel if we can create an emotional connection for people when they interact with a product or a piece of art, then it’s a win for me as an artist.”
Cariloha Artist Owen Richardson said, “Vacationing almost becomes research time for me – much to the dismay of my family who often ask me to get my head out of the clouds and join the party. They’ll ask, ‘Where’s Dad gone to now?’ I’ll most likely be found wandering in the stores looking at shirt designs, taking pictures, observing clever trends in design and style.”
“More than once I have followed someone around, hoping to get a picture of the design on the back of their shirt,” Richardson said. “I like to think of what we do as a kind of visual chemistry. In the same way that the two very distinct elements of hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water, I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting ways to bring separate visual elements together in a way that makes the viewer see them in a new and pleasingly different way.”
