Arsenal are now ready to go all out to keep Jurrien Timber this summer, offering the Dutchman a “record” new contract and selling another player to cement his first-team place.
Arsenal readying “record” contract for Timber
There were some around North London beginning to doubt Timber’s influence on Mikel Arteta’s side. He was showing all the signs of a player who had played almost every game this season, before suffering an unsurprising injury as a result.
It’s only since that injury that any doubts about his quality have been put to bed. Arsenal have suffered in his absence and are desperately hoping to welcome their defender back for a crucial title decider against Manchester City this Sunday.
The Dutchman’s recent absence has also seemingly accelerated plans for a new and improved deal at the Emirates. According to Sports Boom, Arsenal are now ready to offer Timber a “record” new contract to fend off interest from Real Madrid this summer.
Arsenal set to consider sacking Arteta this summer on two major conditions
The Gunners have a huge couple of weeks coming up.
Florentina Perez has reportedly set aside a “war chest” to sign the defender, but any potential deal will be shut down if Timber puts pen to paper on fresh terms in North London.
Arsenal 25/26 | With Timber | Without Timber |
|---|---|---|
Games | 43 | 11 |
Wins | 32 | 7 |
Draws | 8 | 1 |
Defeats | 3 | 3 |
It’s no surprise Arsenal are going all out to keep one of their star man, given how much better they are when he features, and it’s not just a new contract that they’re willing to send his way.
The report are also claims that the Gunners are prepared to sell another player just to keep their £38m man happy this summer.
Arsenal ready to ditch Ben White to keep Timber
Indeed, it’s reported Arsenal are set to sell Ben White instead, which will cement Timber as a key part of the first-team.
The two right-backs have been battling for the starting role this season and with Timber edging that battle, the Gunners are expected to show the former Brighton man the door this summer. That would leave Arsenal without a natural backup for Timber and potentially end Real Madrid’s pursuit as a result.
White hasn’t helped solidify his Arsenal future as of late, struggling to step up for his injured teammate at a time when Arteta’s side desperately need to keep Man City at bay in the title race.
White in the Premier League 25/26 | |
|---|---|
Games | 8 |
Wins | 4 |
Draws | 1 |
Defeats | 3 |
The Gunners have won just half their games in the Premier League when White has featured this season. Without Timber, their right-back spot has gone from a place of strength to a weakness which Man City could expose yet again this Sunday.
If selling the England international ends Real Madrid’s pursuit of Timber, then it’s a sacrifice that Arsenal should make this summer.
