Woodside Energy (NYSE:WDS) said Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with three Japanese companies to assess the potential for a carbon capture and storage value chain between Japan and Australia.
The company said Sumitomo, Toho Gas and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha have joined with it to study the capture, storage and transportation of carbon dioxide emissions from industrial activities in Japan’s Chubu region.
Woodside (WDS) said it will conduct the study of injection and storage of CO2 at Australian storage sites, although it did not specify which sites would be considered.
Last week, Woodside (WDS) signed an MoU with Kansai Electric Power to explore a potential CCS value chain that coincided with Kepco’s announced plan to research the capture of CO2 emissions from its thermal power plants and their transportation to Australia.
