LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) is a company that celebrates women in leadership. From our President in Colorado to our many female brokers and managing brokers, women are thriving in their careers at LIV SIR. These women are embracing the highest standard of professionalism, finding innovative ways to do their jobs, and lifting others.
Women are dominating the real estate industry and breaking ground in new roles. According to Bankrate.com. 62% of all real estate brokers are female and almost 62% of all property managers are female. Women are also making strides as architects, accounting for 24% of the industry. In construction, almost 10% of all professionals are women. As women continue to blaze trails in real estate and construction, one thing is clear – with determination and drive, women can accomplish anything.
Join us for week two, as we celebrate the achievements of women in real estate. Let’s meet some of the leaders, the decision-makers, and the entrepreneurs here at LIV SIR, part of the Majestic Realty Collective.
Peggy Raible, VP and Managing Broker, Telluride
Q: Who inspires you?
A: Professionally, I am inspired by the brokers of LIV SIR, Telluride who continue to exceed the market and expectations of high-net worth individuals to create opportunities for them to achieve their Telluride goals.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: Relax—you’ve got this!
Q: What are some of your favorite events/places/activities to enjoy in Colorado?
A: Colorado is all about our connection with the outdoors. Connecting with yourself, your friends and family–with your spirit!
Shyla Rogers, VP Senior Metro Managing Broker
Q: Who inspires you?
A: I cannot think of just one person who inspires me. My momma told me from an early age, you are the sum of whom you surround yourself with and I have never forgotten her words. I am very fortunate to have a close circle of wildly amazing friends, a loving and caring family, and I am surrounded by the best brokers in Colorado. Everyone I know has at some point in time overcome adversity (big or small), and honestly, I am inspired by at least one of them daily.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: Do not stress over things you cannot control. Have faith that all things work out just as they should, even if the path to where you want to go isn’t straight forward.
Q: What are some of your favorite events/places/activities to enjoy in Colorado?
A: Concerts at Red Rocks on summer nights, Nuggets and Avalanche games, taking in Broadway shows at DCPA, and hiking our beautiful mountain trails. When it is not winter, I am in a run club and enjoy doing 5Ks with my friends on weekends. I also love weekend trips to Vail with my son, Jaxon.
Q: What recommendations do you have for other women as they strive for greatness?
A: Give grace always. To yourself for working hard to achieve your goals, while balancing family, friends and other obligations. Give grace to others, as we never know what they are going through.
Q: As students and young women starting in our careers, many of us envisioned ourselves in certain industries or roles. How is your current position similar to, or different from, what you anticipated for your career?
A: From a young age, I knew I was called to serve others. I changed my major multiple times; first I was going to be a doctor, but hate needles, then I thought about teaching, but that just didn’t quite feel right. I ended up with my degrees in English and Journalism without a real plan. But as it happens, real estate found me, and I fell in love. I serve the best brokers in the Denver Metro Area and get to help them change not only their lives, but the lives of their clients. This is the greatest and most rewarding part of my job! Have faith; it all works out as it should!
Q: Who is a mentor or role model that has helped pave the way for your success?
A: Shannel Ryan has been one of the best mentors in my life. She saw something in me before I saw it in myself, and because she did not give up on bringing me to LIV SIR, I will forever be grateful.
Q: How have other women supported you through your career, maybe through networking, collaboration, or accountability?
A: Having strong women around you helps with so much! I have a very eclectic mix of women in my circle; all wonderful in their own way. I know who to call when I need a pep talk, when I need to cry, when I need to celebrate, or when I need to get my frustration out at the gym.
Q: What sets apart the LIV SIR leadership team?
A: Being fortunate enough to be surrounded by the amazing leadership of LIV SIR, I know I have the support of people who care, behind me. Our leadership squad is so responsive, collaborative, and encouraging of one another. We all have different strengths and styles and will always be there to help each other.
Q: How do you set the tone for a productive and successful day?
A: I find structure and routine are key for great days! I begin my day with gratitude, reminding myself of how lucky I am, then follow that with writing my affirmation to remind myself of my goals. I time block throughout the day to accomplish all of my daily duties, not only work related, but family, and personal time as well.
Kim Taylor, SVP Relocation & Referral Services
Q: Who inspires you?
A: During my career I’ve had the good fortune to know many unique and inspirational people, but at this point in my life, my two-year-old granddaughter inspires me the most. Lucy Taylor Brock was named after her great, great, great grandmother, Lucy Nicholson, who was born in 1878. Opportunities for women when I was young were very different than today but imagining a woman’s world nearly 150 years ago is daunting. My greatest joy, passion, and privilege are to assist in exposing Lucy to life’s wonders, beauty, and adventures in every way possible, for as long as I can keep up with that spunky little girl!
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: Take more risks, know when a restart is the best next move, and don’t let anything get in the way of what you want out of life.
Q: What are some of your favorite events/places/activities to enjoy in Colorado?
A: One of my favorite things to do in Denver is to bike along the Cherry Creek path to Confluence Park. The sounds and motion of two Denver rivers converging is incredible. Watching people enjoy the water activities created at this merge, views of REI’s historic flagship building, Mile High Stadium, the downtown Denver skyline, nearby museums, our aquarium, Elitch park, and a riverfront trolley, can be found nowhere else! For me, this is a Denver treasure.
Q: What recommendations do you have for other women as they strive for greatness?
A: Be brave, speak your truth, and always show kindness to others.
Q: Who is a mentor or role model that has helped pave the way for your success?
A: Chuck Jaqua, founder of Jaqua Realtors, a family-owned real estate firm located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After becoming a single mom of three just over twenty years ago, I was looking for a new career, but real estate was not at all on my radar. Fortunately, I was introduced to Chuck Jaqua at a community event, and he convinced me to schedule “just a quick meeting” to discuss his company and the opportunities that a career in real estate can provide. That nearly two-hour meeting changed my life forever. Chuck helped me understand that real estate is about service not sales, and through his guidance and coaching I became the top producing realtor in SW Michigan. This important career move provided the platform and experience for my current position at LIV Sotheby’s International Realty. Chuck and his wife became great friends to me and my children, and I’ll be forever grateful for his support and encouragement.
