July 25 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t attend the state funeral of Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Kremlin stated on Monday.
“No, Putin has no plans to go to Japan and attend the funeral,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised reporters, including that Russia was but to resolve the nation’s presence on the funeral.
The Japanese authorities has notified all of the nations it has diplomatic ties with, together with Russia, of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s state funeral, Deputy Chief Cupboard Secretary Yoshihiko Isozaki stated on Monday.
Japan’s Sankei each day reported on Saturday that Tokyo was leaning towards not permitting Putin to attend the funeral, set for Sept. 27. Abe was gunned down at a marketing campaign rally this month. (Reporting by Reuters; modifying by Man Faulconbridge)
