Dogecoin (DOGE), one of the most popular “memecoins,” can be held in many leading crypto wallets on the market. You can store Dogecoin in a “cold” hardware wallet that keeps your data fully offline, or a “hot” software wallet connected to the internet. Some wallets are made specifically for Dogecoin.

The Dogecoin website has a “Much Wallets” section that filters 12 options based on your operating system and desired features. When choosing a Dogecoin wallet, you can consider factors such as how much Dogecoin you have, as well as your preferences for security and convenience.

Hot wallets

A hot wallet keeps your crypto connected to the internet on your phone or computer for easy access to trading platforms.

Dogecoin Core

Good for: Hardcore Dogecoin users (Wowe. Such Doge).

Dogecoin Core is open-source software that essentially runs a copy of the entire Dogecoin blockchain on your computer. This method is called a “full node,” and it helps secure the Dogecoin network and keep it running smoothly. The software can be installed on a Windows, Linux PC or MacOS computer and takes at least 50GB of hard drive space.

Since the software is specifically for Dogecoin, it isn’t compatible with any other cryptocurrencies. You’ll also need to learn how to encrypt and back up the wallet yourself. Other wallets may have more advanced built-in security features.

Trust Wallet

Good for: Storing a wide variety of assets.

Trust Wallet is an open-source online storage method that enables purchases and connects to exchanges and decentralized applications, or Dapps, directly from the wallet. According to its developers, the wallet supports more than 4.5 million digital assets, including Dogecoin. Users can buy $50 to $20,000 worth of DOGE with a credit card or debit card directly from the mobile app.

The app earns 4.7 out of 5 stars on the App Store and 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google Play. Trust Wallet also has a browser extension in beta testing that has similar features to the mobile app and can store over 430 different currencies.

Exodus

Good for: Converting between hot and cold storage.

Exodus supports buying and trading directly from its platforms, which include a mobile app, desktop app and browser extension. The software also integrates with the Trezor cold wallet to help users easily move their crypto between hot and cold storage.

Exodus supports about 150 different currencies, including Dogecoin, and offers additional features such as NFT storage and staking. The mobile app earns 4.6 out of 5 stars on the App Store and 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google Play.

Cold wallets

A hardware wallet provides higher-security storage by keeping your assets offline and can store thousands of currencies in addition to Dogecoin.

Trezor

Cost: Around $70 for Model One; around $250 for Model T.

Good for: Built-in Dogecoin support.

Trezor’s hardware wallets connect to a phone or computer through USB-C and can store over 1,000 different cryptocurrencies (1,800 with the Model T). The hand-held device offers backup security protection through desktop or mobile.

There’s no mobile app, but users can make purchases and trades directly through the desktop app, plus integrate with software wallets such as Exodus to access Dapps. The website has a dedicated Dogecoin wiki page in addition to its standard customer support tools. Dogecoin is already integrated with the Trezor wallet, so it doesn’t require any additional downloads.

Ledger

Cost: $79 for Nano S Plus; $149 for Nano X.

Good for: Cold storage with a mobile connection.

Ledger’s popular flash drive-shaped device can store over 5,500 different currencies, including Dogecoin. It’s available for purchase from Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon as well as the company website, and the device can connect to software wallets like Crypto.com and Guarda.

Ledger has both mobile and desktop apps, though Dogecoin investors will need to download both Bitcoin and Dogecoin apps onto their Ledger devices to connect their funds to the wallet. There’s a dedicated Dogecoin support page to help users get set up, as well as a library of crypto education content.
