Over twenty years after The Best Man debuted in theaters, Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs), Jordan Armstrong (Nia Long), Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut), Julian Murchison (Harold Perrineau), Quentin Spivey (Terrence Howard), Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), and Shelby (Melissa De Sousa) have all returned for The Best Man: The Final Chapters, a limited-series that catches up with the beloved friend group as “relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.” Peacock has released the full trailer for The Best Man: The Final Chapters, which you can check out above.
The Best Man: The Final Chapters was created by Malcolm D. Lee, who wrote and directed the original movie, as well as the 2013 sequel, The Best Man Holiday. “When I wrote The Best Man, it was out of a desire to see myself on screen,” Malcolm D. Lee said in a statement when the project was announced. “Growing up I rarely saw Black people — Black men in particular — the way my friends and I saw ourselves: educated, upwardly mobile African-Americans who were just ‘normal’ (Barack and Michelle before Barack and Michelle). It has always been my mission to make African-American stories mainstream. It is my life’s work to tell stories that include and elevate us. And I hope my legacy will be that I represented for us.” Dayne Lynee North, who developed The Best Man: The Final Chapters alongside Lee and serves as co-showrunner, added that the series will “expand on the themes established in The Best Man franchise — love, friendship, faith, forgiveness, and personal growth — all filtered through a beautifully Black lens.” A third film in the franchise, The Best Man Wedding, was announced following the release of the first sequel but was later put on hold indefinitely.
The Best Man: The Final Chapters will debut on Peacock on December 22nd. What did you think of the trailer for The Best Man: The Final Chapters? Will you be watching?
