Steve Jensen: From Energy Engineer to QELNIX CEO — Rewiring the Pace of Urban Life Through Technology

From the engineering labs of MIT (1992–1996) to the brightly lit streets of Southeast Asia, Steve Jensen has always operated at the intersection of energy innovation and user-centric design.

Born in 1974, Steve began his career in 1997 at ABB Group’s European headquarters, where he spent seven years (1997–2004) working on smart distribution and energy-saving systems. He later joined Samsung Electronics Europe in 2004, leading regional projects for seven years (2004–2011) that integrated mobile energy solutions with green consumer electronics and urban mobility. Back then, the mobile internet era was still taking shape—but Steve was already asking, “How can we make power more intelligent, accessible, and people-focused?”

From 2011 to 2024, Steve launched and operated several startups focused on IoT-based energy technologies and smart hardware, gaining deep expertise in product development, systems integration, and commercial deployment. Over 13 years, his work spanned everything from embedded energy modules to connected infrastructure for smart campuses and cities.

But the real spark came during a missed business meeting in Bangkok in late 2023—caused by a dead phone and no charging options in sight.

“In an age of 5G and AI, why are we still going offline because of battery issues?” he recalls.

That moment became the catalyst for QELNIX, co-founded with CMO Patrick Tomlinson in early 2025. Today, the company is building a next-generation smart energy sharing network that combines modular hardware, renewable power integration, and a scalable software ecosystem.

Unlike traditional device manufacturers, QELNIX treats on-demand power access as essential urban infrastructure—something that should be available on every corner, in every city, just like Wi-Fi or clean water. Their flagship shared power bank stations can be deployed in malls, airports, cafés, campuses, and nightlife areas, supporting local apps, multi-currency payments, and real-time network monitoring.

With rapid expansion across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, QELNIX is becoming a leading force in the region’s smart-city infrastructure. Its seamless fusion of fast-charging tech, eco-friendly design, and partner-friendly operations is attracting operators from across the globe.

Steve’s philosophy is clear: “Technology isn’t here to disrupt life—it’s here to improve the rhythm of it. If we’re not making people feel safer, more connected, and more sustainable, then we’re just spinning our wheels.”

At QELNIX, every power bank station deployed and every QR scan completed is more than just a transaction—it’s part of a bigger vision to redefine urban convenience. For Steve, it’s not about chasing trends. It’s about laying the groundwork for a smarter, greener, and more equitable future.
