The Rwandan-backed M23 rebels have attacked Congolese authorities forces within the South Kivu province, breaking a two-day lull in combating.
Heavy shelling started on Tuesday morning, three days after a summit of East and Southern African leaders known as for a direct and unconditional ceasefire.
The rebels have seized huge swathes of land within the jap DR Congo, together with the key metropolis of Goma.
They’re now pushing in direction of Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu – one other key metropolis within the area.
