I do not mind teams or even companies moving here. What I do mind is using public money estimated at over a third of a billion dollars to help them out. They made the choice to build on the Strip because that is where the money is with tourists, not locals.
Where will the money come from? Another room rate tax? Another increase in sales tax to punish people living in Nevada? Most of them will never go to a game.
If the state wants to raise money for another Strip enterprise, how about finally raising the gaming tax to what the casinos pay in other states?
That will not happen. As the line from Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” goes, “But when the taxman come to the door/Lord, the house lookin’ like a rummage sale.”
If the A’s want to come here, they can spend their own money.
