Huge kudos to the sponsors and co-sponsors of Assembly Bill 159, which seeks to revise provisions relating to cruelty toward animals, thereby classifying perpetrators in some cases as violent offenders, and making them ineligible for early parole. This helps send a message that egregious animal cruelty crimes will not get an easy pass, as has so often happened in the court system to the disappointment of this community.
It’s good to see that animal protection is a bipartisan issue, garnering the support of those elected officials who get it and understand that these crimes are not only cruel in and of themselves, but an offense to society, and portend escalating crimes against humans by those who have no problem harming helpless animals.
The great majority of Nevadans oppose animal cruelty, so it’s nice to see that some of our representatives are paying attention to the concerns of their constituents.
