Newcastle could return for Broja in January

Newcastle United could reportedly make a fresh approach for Chelsea striker Armando Broja in January, having been linked with the Albania international throughout the summer.

What’s the word?

According to the Chronicle, the 20-year-old may potentially be a ‘loan option’ for the Magpies in the winter window, despite having only recently agreed a new long-term deal with his current club.

As the report suggests, the late, deadline-day arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shunted the Slough-born menace down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with a lack of involvement between now and January perhaps set to spark a temporary exit.

Eddie Howe and co had reportedly been keen on a loan deal for the 14-cap marksman earlier in the summer, while fellow Premier League side West Ham United are said to have seen an offer of around £30m rejected by the Blues.

Imagine him and Isak

Although the Tynesiders have only recently bolstered their centre-forward ranks with the addition of Sweden international Alexander Isak, it would no doubt be a hugely mouthwatering prospect to have two exciting young talents in tow for the northeast side.

Isak has already made a fine impression in his new surroundings having netted on debut in the narrow defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in midweek, lashing the ball confidently into the roof of the net past a helpless Alisson.

On that evidence, the 22-year-old starlet appears set to be unburdened by his reported £59m price tag, with the 6-foot-4 sensation hoping to continue the impressive form he showed at former club Real Sociedad, scoring 44 goals in 132 games for the LaLiga outfit.

Do Newcastle need to sign Broja?

No, not convinced

The addition of Broja would then strengthen Howe’s attacking options even further, with the former Southampton loanee having already proven his talent in English football, netting nine times in all competitions during his stint at St Mary’s last term.

Lauded for his “clinical” ability in front of goal by journalist Tom Barclay, the £19.8m-rated ace also previously scored 11 goals while on loan at Vitesse Arnhem during the 2020/21 campaign, showcasing his undoubted finishing prowess.

It is not just his quality in the final third that has caught the eye, however, with the 6-foot-3 forward also offering an imposing and powerful presence when leading the line, having been notably dubbed a “machine” by writer Simon Peach.

How many 2021/22 Premier League goals did Newcastle score?

With Callum Wilson still struggling to keep fit and Chris Wood appearing like a mere short-term fix – having scored just three goals since his January arrival – the addition of Broja could well be the stern competition that is needed for Isak, as well as a figure who could potentially partner the Swede in what would be a fearsome centre-forward pairing.
