Myanmar anti-junta pages falsely share outdated photograph as ‘shot-down army chopper’

As preventing intensified between the army and ethnic armed teams in components of Myanmar, an outdated photograph of a broken helicopter gained traction in Fb teams that steered it was a not too long ago shot-down army plane. Nonetheless, the photograph was revealed in 2020 in a report a couple of chopper that suffered mechanical failure throughout take-off.

The Southeast Asian nation has been racked by battle between the army and numerous armed teams against its rule for the reason that military ousted Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected authorities in February 2021.

The photograph unfold throughout anti-junta Fb accounts shortly after an analogous false declare emerged within the type of a video offered as a junta helicopter stormed by the Arakan Military (AA) ethnic armed group in Myanmar’s restive Rakhine state.

Some Fb customers appeared to imagine the photograph confirmed a army helicopter downed by rebels.

‘Mechanical failure’

A reverse picture search on Google discovered the photograph revealed on the web site of Myanmar’s Workplace of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Companies (CINCDS) on March 7, 2020 (archived hyperlink).

It was featured in a press release a couple of helicopter crash which was titled: “Helicopter grounded from mechanical points throughout take off, barely injuring two pilots.”

In keeping with the assertion, the plane was transporting army attachés and reporters protecting a medication seizure in Kutkai Township in Myanmar’s Shan State.

The chopper was hit by mechanical failure throughout take-off, it stated.

AFP revealed a photograph of the broken plane on March 6, 2020, taken from a special angle (archived hyperlink).

The photograph caption says it confirmed a broken helicopter “following an accident whereas about to take off from Kawnghka in Shan State on March 6, 2020.”

“There have been 4 helicopters carrying army attachés from embassies, army officers and journalists on that day,” stated an AFP correspondent who reported on the anti-narcotic marketing campaign press briefing on the time.

“The helicopter carrying army attaché slowly fell a couple of minutes after it took off from the bottom.”
