A WOMAN whose sister was killed by a crazed knifeman has heartbreakingly told how she still doesn’t know how to respond when people ask her if she has siblings.

Michaela Dunn, 24, was horrifically slaughtered by Mert Ney, 23, at an apartment in Sydney, Australia, on August 13, 2019.

He had paid the sex worker £136 for a “girlfriend experience” before butchering the tragic 24-year-old.

The killer sickeningly boasted about the murder in a video to a pal while covered in blood before going on a violent rampage in the city.

Michaela was lying dead in the flat after having her throat cut so deep that the blade had reached her spinal cord.

The twisted murderer pleaded guilty to Michaela’s murder and was locked up for 44 years – but her family are serving a life sentence.

Her sister Emily has now opened up about her family’s heartache three years on from Michaela’s tragic death.

She explained she is often winded by grief when she has seemingly ordinary conversations with her peers.

Emily told 7News: “Often now people ask me, ‘Do you have any siblings?’

“And I never know how to answer that question: ‘Oh, well, I did’.

“But I hate talking about Mickie in the past tense. I think that’s part of the tragedy, knowing she could have done anything, but we’ll just never know what she would have gone on to do.”

She told how she and Michaela shared a “typical” sisterly relationship growing up and were inseparable as youngsters.

Emily continued: “We constantly got on each other’s nerves all the same time.

“There were four and a half years between us, we’d get up to all sorts of mischief together. We did lots of different sports.

“We did swimming for a while, we’d do pretty much everything together.

“And then, as we got older, she caught the travel bug and we couldn’t stop her – just exploring Europe.

“When you’re 24, you’re still early days. She had so much left to learn and so much left to experience.

“She’d just started doing an online fashion course on her own clothes. She had so much left to learn.”

I think that’s part of the tragedy, knowing she could have done anything, but we’ll just never know what she would have gone on to do.

Michaela suffered serious defence wounds to her hands and arms as she tried to fight off vile Ney.

The killer fled her apartment before going on a rampage through the streets – a bystander Lin Bo in the shoulder.

He terrorised locals on the streets holding a blood-stained knife while screaming “Allahu Akbar”, performing an ISIS salute and even jumping on the roof of a car.

Courageous locals who witnessed the chaos then chased Ney, who suffered from mental health issues and had ingested valium and cannabis before the stabbing, before pinning him to the ground using a milk crate.

Brit brothers Paul and Luke O’Shaughnessy and their pal Lee Cuthbert were hailed as heroes after overpowering the 23-year-old.

Emily paid tribute to the brave onlookers who managed to detain the murderer until police arrived.

She said: “People who step in, in those sorts of scenarios, I don’t think they’re thinking really about the danger at the time.

“Which speaks mountains about the sort of people they are.”

Ney told officers he hoped to be shot dead by cops “but the good Samaritans spoiled it”.

He was sentenced to 44 years behind bars and must serve a minimum of 33 years before being eligible for parole.

Justice Peter Johnson described his crime as a “cruel, brutal and terrifying attack made for no reason.”
