Mega MAGA Backdraft on Biden

For years, conservatives have withstood incessant badgering by Democrats and progressives about former President Donald Trump and the MAGA revolution. But Republicans may reap the benefits of this ceaseless onslaught of name-calling, finger-pointing, and labeling if the latest poll numbers are any indication. Will the right finally get the last laugh? As President Biden pushes to vilify half of the electorate, folks are tired of being called fascist, racist, and a threat to democracy. It’s beginning to look like Mr. President opened the wrong door in the towering inferno, creating a massive backdraft upon himself.

The Trafalgar Group conducted polling in which a plurality of respondents, 51%, “believe the Biden administration has crossed an important ethical line in pursuing political opponents.” But who cares about that when you have Independents and ethnic demographics on your side, right? Well, hold on there, little doggie: 54% of Independents and an astounding (for Democrats) 74% of Hispanic voters agreed.

But that is just one poll out of many.

The MAGA Effect

The Trafalgar Group has sounded the alarm on a trend that began in earnest with Biden giving a speech in front of Independence Hall on the first of September. The president managed to one-up Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comment by saying the Republican Party, and those who remain card-carrying members of the organization, are horrible human beings: “Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic … there is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and that is a threat to this country.”

Although presidential tracking polls began to suggest Mr. Biden had gone too far and was alienating the powerful swing vote of Independents, he’s only ratcheted the rhetoric up since that Philadelphia appearance. And the new numbers should have the left scrambling to stop the hemorrhage.

A Harvard CAPS-Harris poll also recently reported unrest in the Democratic voter forest. Mark Penn, the survey co-director, bluntly stated: “Most voters saw the speech as inappropriate.” So, one might think the Biden handlers would rein the president in a tad before the midterms, right? One would be wrong. Instead, it seems to have gotten worse.

While Democrats celebrated the continued travails of the former president after the raid on his Mar-a-Lago home, the actions by the Department of Justice did not sit well with, yes, you guessed it: Republicans and Independents. Trafalgar took the pulse again, finding that a plurality of Independents believed the raid was “too political, corrupt, and not to be trusted” and that most Hispanics thought the investigation was politically motivated. Rasmussen Reports also reported: “44% of Likely voters say the FBI raid on Trump’s Florida home made them trust the FBI less.”

The most recent presidential tracking poll by Rasmussen speaks volumes on Democratic Party missteps: “Sixty percent (60%) say Biden should not run” in 2024.

The electorate has gone cold and dark as dissatisfaction with this administration rages out of control. It seems well beyond the opportune time to put down the kerosene can and pick up a fire extinguisher, but that is not what Mr. Biden has decided. C’mon, man, wasn’t this guy going to save the soul of a nation?
