Crysencio Summerville’s late winner for Leeds stunned Liverpool and added to the club’s poor start to the Premier League season with a victory that lifts the pressure on Jesse Marsch.
The 20-year-old Summerville produced a composed finish in the 89th minute to end the club’s eight-match winless run.
Mohamed Salah had cancelled out Rodrigo’s opener inside 15 minutes but the Reds were frustrated by a Leeds side who produced an impressive display for Marsch.
Rodrigo capitalised on a mistake from defender Joe Gomez and goalkeeper Alisson to put Leeds ahead but Salah equalised when he finished Andy Robertson’s cross at the back post.
Darwin Nunez had Liverpool’s best chance of the second half but was denied by Illan Meslier while Patrick Bamford wasted an excellent opportunity for Leeds late on. After losing to Nottingham Forest last weekend, Liverpool have now lost back-to-back matches against teams who were in the bottom three.
