Is Johnny Depp back? Well, pas exactement…
The Pirates of the Caribbean star’s big comeback movie just got its first trailer, and it certainly looks like a real film. A real French film.
Jeanne Du Barry is the story of a courtesan who captures the heart of King Louis XV. Depp, in his first major film role since his big legal win against ex Amber Heard, plays the smitten monarch, with Maïwenn — who also directed — playing the titular Jeanne Vaubernier. The whole thing, yes, is en français. And since this is a French release, not planned for US release, the first trailer doesn’t even have subtitles! But you still can get the gist.

While that may seem a little sketchy for a comeback movie, note that the picture is opening this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May. So it’s actually a big deal. Just, you know, in Europe. Where they still make Woody Allen movies, too.
