DUBAI (Reuters) – An Iranian courtroom has sentenced Iranian-American journalist Reza Valizadeh to 10 years in jail for working at a U.S.-funded radio outlet, his lawyer Mohammad Hossein Aghasi stated on X on Saturday.
Iran and the U.S. State Division earlier acknowledged the imprisonment in Iran of Valizadeh, who beforehand labored for Prague-based Radio Farda, an outlet beneath Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that’s overseen by the U.S. Company for World Media.
“Valizadeh’s punishment for the crime of working at Radio Farda is ten years imprisonment, a ban on residence in Tehran province and neighbouring provinces, a ban on leaving the nation and membership in political events, and so on. for 2 years,” Aghasi stated.
Iran doesn’t recognise second nationalities and treats twin nationals solely as Iranians.
