India probes three EV corporations for $35m subsidy fraud

India’s Ministry of Company Affairs (MCA) has introduced an ongoing investigation into three electrical automobile (EV) producers for allegedly availing authorities subsidies fraudulently.

The whole sum in query quantities to roughly Rs2.97bn (about $35m).

The corporations below scrutiny, Hero Electrical Automobiles, Benling India Power and Know-how, and Okinawa Autotech; they’re accused of violating pointers tied to FAME II.

FAME II was launched in 2019 by India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), that aimed to advertise native EV manufacturing and drive electrification in India. It’s primarily concerned in two-wheeler EVs and the related provide chain for the applied sciences.

The MCA has confirmed that an investigation is at present underway.

In its assertion, the MCA stated: “The three corporations, for claiming subsidies, had deceptively proven compliance with the relevant pointers to the MHI, which was subsequently discovered to be incorrect and false.”

The Authorities of India has been investigating Hero Electrical and Okinawa since final yr for allegedly misusing subsidies below the FAME scheme, reported CNBC TV 18.

Following whistleblower complaints, authorities testing businesses, the Automotive Analysis Affiliation of India (ARAI) and the Worldwide Centre for Automotive Know-how (ICAT), performed probes into these corporations.

Along with Hero Electrical and Okinawa, the federal government is analyzing potential subsidy misuse by at the very least 14 different EV producers.

These embody Benling, Okaya, Jitendra New EV, Greaves Electrical Mobility, Revolt Intellicorp, Kinetic Inexperienced Power, Avon Cycles, Lohia Auto, Thukral Electrical, and Victory Electrical.
