Hansi Flick has admitted a decision on his future as Germany manager must be made very quickly after the team’s shock elimination from the World Cup.

Germany were beaten by Japan in their opening fixture and needed the Asian side to lose to Spain on the final day, only for the Samurai Blue to snatch a stunning 2-1 comeback victory which saw Germany crash out at the group stages for the second tournament in a row.

With many fans calling for Flick to leave, the former Bayern Munich manager admitted a decision on his continuation will be made soon.

Asked whether he will resign after the latest humiliation, Flick told reporters: “We’ll work that out quickly, it’s difficult to answer now right after the game when we’re eliminated.

“We’ll see about that very soon.”

Germany ended their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Costa Rica but, due to their initial defeat to Japan and subsequent 1-1 draw with Spain, they failed to rack up enough points to advance.

“I’m not speechless,” Flick said. “I was disappointed and angry with the team in the first half. We invited the opponent into the game through mistakes and carelessness. Nevertheless, we won.

“Our downfall didn’t happen today, but in 20 minutes against Japan. We could have won against Spain with a bit more efficiency. Nevertheless, the disappointment is huge.

“I don’t think it’s that we weren’t fired up. We missed a lot of chances in the first half and tried to do better in the second. Yet, we are going home. My disappointment is huge and the coaching staff feel the same way.”
