The New York Giants are the NFL’s most surprising 5-1 team under the leadership of quarterback Daniel Jones, who is in the final year of his rookie contract after the club declined the fifth-year option attached to his deal this past spring.

Jones said during a recent edition of the “New York, New York with John Jastremski” podcast he doesn’t obsess over his future but also admitted he can’t completely ignore the matter this fall.

“I mean, I’d be lying if I said I never think about it, but I think for the most part, you want to be present and do what you gotta do each week to play,” Jones explained, according to Robert Sanchez of SNY.

ESPN stats show Jones heads into this Sunday’s game at the 2-4 Jacksonville Jaguars 16th among eligible quarterbacks with a 90.2 passer rating, 14th with a 54.7 total QBR, fourth with a 67.3% completion percentage and 24th with 1,021 passing yards this season. He’s thrown for five touchdowns and two interceptions to go along with 236 rushing yards and a pair of scores.

Additionally, Dan Benton of Giants Wire/USA Today noted Jones was the NFL’s best quarterback over the past three weeks in expected points added per drop-back.
