Relive some of the craziest moments from the internet this year — featuring some of your favorite celebs (below)!
Coldplay Kiss Cam
Nobody will ever look at a kiss cam again! And it wasn’t even a kiss cam. LOLz!
During a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts in July, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, who is married, was caught getting cozy with his (also married) HR Chief Kristin Cabot! All because they were displayed cuddling on the big screen, then freaked the f**k out when they noticed! Chris Martin called them out on the sneaky link — and while he thought he was joking in the moment, he was spot on!
@dailymail Chris Martin caught one camera-shy couple by surprise as he addressed the audience at a Coldplay concert – and joked that they were ‘either having an affair’ or were just very bashful. As the frontman panned his ‘kiss cam’ around the crowd at Gillette Stadium in Boston on Wednesday, the pair looked horrified to be seen by thousands on the big screen. What do you think? Were they just caught in 4K? ???? calebu2 / TMX #news #viral #coldplay #affair #cheating

Kristin, who was in the process of splitting from her husband, has since talked ALL about the drama! Catch up HERE.
Not Clocking To You!
Justin Bieber had several viral exchanges with paparazzi this year, coining him new famous phrases like “it’s not clocking to you” and “standing on business.” See the original heated rant HERE. As it went viral, he even poked fun at the chaos:
Plus, it all inspired a track on his album SWAG titled STANDING ON BUSINESS:
Katy Perry Goes To Space
Who could forget the time Katy Perry went to space to promote her flopped album?! That video of her kissing the ground was everywhere after!
Too bad this adventure led to her split from Orlando Bloom…
Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Disaster
Sydney Sweeney‘s American Eagle ad sparked a MASSIVE debate after it was accused of promoting eugenics!
See, in the original commercial, you see Sydney talking about how families pass their genes down generation to generation.
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring. Often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
The commercial’s closing message?
“Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
Sydney Sweeney, who is a blonde, blue eyed, able-bodied actress has “great jeans” — a pun on “genes” meant to refer to the denim pants the commercial was selling. But at a time when white supremacist views and stigma around disabilities are at an all time high, a lot of people thought it came across as — at best — extremely tone deaf. And at worst? A dog whistle promoting eugenics.
So, what does eugenics even mean? Per the National Human Genome Research Institute:
“Eugenics is the scientifically inaccurate theory that humans can be improved through selective breeding of populations.
Eugenicists believed in a prejudiced and incorrect understanding of Mendelian genetics that claimed abstract human qualities (e.g., intelligence and social behaviors) were inherited in a simple fashion. Similarly, they believed complex diseases and disorders were solely the outcome of genetic inheritance.
The implementation of eugenics practices has caused widespread harm, particularly to populations that are being marginalized.
Eugenics is not a fringe movement. Starting in the late 1800s, leaders and intellectuals worldwide perpetuated eugenic beliefs and policies based on common racist and xenophobic attitudes.
Many of these beliefs and policies still exist in the United States.
The genomics communities continue to work to scientifically debunk eugenic myths and combat modern-day manifestations of eugenics and scientific racism, particularly as they affect people of color, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ individuals.”
Yeah, not the best look. Not to mention the fact it took her f**king forever to actually address the criticism. Watch the ad that sparked the debate for yourself (below):
But that wasn’t the only one they filmed! Eventually the way less controversial spot took over with Sydney just being coy about how comfortable the denim is. The narrator still closes off with “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” but without all that talk about actual genetics and offspring, well, it’s not hard to see why this version isn’t as problematic. Watch (below):
Oh and don’t forget how Gap responded to AE:
Their campaign message?
“This is denim as you define it.
Your individuality. Your self-expression. Your style.
Powerful on your own. Even better together.”
Needless to say, Gap’s inclusivity-centered commercial definitely won the internet’s heart this time around!
