“You enjoying your pie?” “All pie is good pie.” Netflix has revealed a teaser trailer for Hit Man, the hugely loved new “hitman” comedy from Texas filmmaker Richard Linklater. This originally premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival last year, blowing the roof off in one of the most enthusiastic screenings I’ve ever been to (read my full review). It’s also playing at Sundance this week. From Academy Award-nominated writer/director Richard Linklater, co-written and starring Glen Powell alongside Adria Arjona, comes Hit Man. Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a hit man meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities. Co-written by Linklater & Powell and inspired by a true story, it’s a cleverly existential comedy about identity. Hit Man arrives on Netflix in June, even though it should be playing in theaters worldwide instead of going straight to streaming. The cast includes Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, and Evan Holtzman. Everyone loves this film! You will, too! This is a very short teaser trailer with barely any footage – all you need to see before going to watch it.
Here’s the first look teaser trailer for Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, direct from Netflix’s YouTube:
Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater’s sunlit neo-noir stars Glen Powell as strait-laced professor Gary Johnson, who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department. Preternaturally gifted at inhabiting different guises and personalities to catch hapless people hoping to bump off their enemies, Gary descends into morally dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to one of those potential criminals, a beautiful woman named Madison (Adria Arjona). As she falls for one of Gary’s hit man personas — the mysteriously sexy Ron — their steamy affair sets off a chain reaction of play acting, deception, and higher stakes. Hit Man is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Richard Linklater, director of many great films including Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise & Sunset & Midnight, SubUrbia, The Newton Boys, Waking Life, Tape, School of Rock, Bad News Bears, Fast Food Nation, A Scanner Darkly, Me & Orson Welles, Bernie, Boyhood, Everybody Wants Some!!, Last Flag Flying, Where’d You Go Bernadette, and Apollo 10½ previously. The screenplay is written by Richard Linklater & Glen Powell; based on the Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth. This initially premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival (read our review). Netflix will debut Hit Man streaming starting on June 7th, 2024.
