Bill Belichick’s surprising omission from the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility drew significant attention to the Hall’s voting process. It also sparked debate about who among the 50 voters didn’t support the legendary New England Patriots coach’s candidacy.
Hall of Fame voter and Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy was asked on Tuesday if he voted for Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft for induction. The NBC analyst stressed that the results have not been announced.
Thanks for the submission!
“First of all, we don’t know that they didn’t get voted into the Hall of Fame,” Dungy said. “I’m a voter, I haven’t heard who’s in, who’s out. I’m not going to make a comment on it or speculate. We’ll find out on Thursday who’s in or who’s out.”

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy didn’t hold back after Dungy declined to confirm whether he voted for Belichick and Kraft.

“COWARD,” Portnoy tweeted.
While Dungy declined to clear the air, some voters addressed the controversy. Several committee members confirmed that they supported Belichick. Kansas City Star’s Vahe Gregorian and Fox59’s Mike Chappell shared their reasons for leaving him off their ballots.
Initial reports suggested that Bill Polian urged his fellow voters to make Belichick wait a year for induction for his role in Spygate and Deflategate. The former Bills general manager was cleared but there were speculations that Dungy, an ex-Colts coach, may have withheld his vote for Belichick and Kraft.
Indianapolis was New England’s biggest AFC rival during Dungy’s tenure, which could have influenced his decision.
Jordan Hudson calls out the Hall of Fame following Bill Belichick’s snub
Bill Belichick’s snub as a first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee drew strong reactions, including from his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
She posted a screenshot of her three Hall of Fame patches being canceled. Hudson questioned the reasoning behind the snub.
“Hey @profootballhof, what were the ‘unforeseen circumstances’?” Hudson wrote on Instagram.
She reportedly planned a party for Belichick on the same night as the induction ceremony. Hudson’s guest list included NFL legends Tom Brady, Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson. The three were expected to attend the legendary coach’s Hall of Fame induction in Canton.
