Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels appears to be placing blame on quarterback Derek Carr for the team’s losing season by benching him for the last two games.
The way the Raiders lost most of their games was because of defense. Yes, the offense struggled at times, but in many of their losses they had leads up until only a few minutes left in the last quarter. Where was the defense?
Also, a lot of the last-quarter plays being called appeared to be trying to run out the clock rather than trying to score. Then, when they did get their last-second shot to try and score, long pass plays were called rather than short outs, even when they only needed a field goal to tie or win.
That was the biggest mistake the Raiders made all year. I played a lot of football in my younger days and since then I have followed it diligently. My coaches may have shouted at a player or players at times, but they never blamed any of us for losing. Who was the leader who made all of the calls? I don’t think it was the quarterback. Maybe it is time to fess up and bench the right people.
