Carlo Ancelotti has hail his current Real Madrid squad as ‘one of the best squads I’ve ever had, if not the best’ after they beat Sevilla 3-1 on Saturday night to equal their best-ever start to a league campaign.
Los Merengues took the lead at the Bernabeu after five minutes via Luka Modric, only to be pulled back by another former Spurs man when Erik Lamela levelled for the visitors after 54 minutes.
However, late goals from Lucas Vazquez and Fede Valverde sealed the win for Madrid, meaning they now sit on 31 points after 11 games.
Speaking in his post-match press conference after the game, Ancelotti said: “This is one of the best squads I’ve ever had, if not the best.
“I like to coach this team because they don’t give me problems, they have full trust in what we are doing.”
Ancelotti also offered an update on the situation of striker Karim Benzema, who missed the match with a calf injury.
“He will not be recovered on Tuesday, but I think he will be on Sunday. I am not worried about him because what he had yesterday is a very small thing,” Ancelotti told reporters.
“It is true that he has not had much continuity, but healthy and motivated he is still very important for us, although the health of the squad is so great that we have been able to replace a player as important as him. That does not mean that Karim will not be important in the second part of the season.”
Madrid will travel to Germany this week for their upcoming Champions League game against RB Leipzig, looking to seal their place at the top of Group F.
