The Aug. 25 letter by Leonard Lither, “CCSD wants sound leaders,” seems like intentional erasure of the work of a Black lady who has been devoted to college students, households and workers.
It erases the work of Kamilah Bywaters’ group,Las Vegas Affiliation of Black Faculty Educators (LVABSE), whose mission is to “improve and facilitate instructional alternatives and social improvement of all college students, particularly underrepresented and underserved Black/African American youngsters by growing partnerships, creating skilled improvement, selling the location of Black/African American leaders, and shaping public coverage.”
Those that observe the varsity board conferences are nicely acquainted with Bywaters, as a result of she exhibits up at virtually each assembly, nicely ready with testimony. I hadn’t seen or heard from Lither at board conferences till he grew to become a college board candidate.
The truth that Bywaters has for months hosted weekly on-line group conferences to deal with CCSD governance, instructional pedagogy, nationwide tendencies in training, and the issues of the area people, is erased by Lither, whereas he questions her dedication to training.
Lither’s letter tells us extra about him than about Bywaters, or the problems.
