Major spoilers for Black Adam. Consider yourself warned. After nearly two decades of waiting, Dwayne Johnson’s superhero epic Black Adam has finally arrived. As is customary with comic-book movies, Black Adam contains plenty of references and cameos from the larger DC Universe, but one major cameo has pretty much been common knowledge for some time, which producer Hiram Garcia calls “frustrating.“
The Black Adam cameo we’re referring to is the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, something fans have been begging for. To be fair, Dwayne Johnson hasn’t exactly been great at keeping the cameo a secret on the road to the movie’s release, not so subtly referring to Henry Cavill’s return in many interviews, but Hiram Garcia told /Film that it was frustrating that so many fans had the reveal spoiled for them ahead of time.
“Oh my God, it is so frustrating,” Garcia said. “You work so hard, but look, we understand that this ending and this dream, this family dream that we had to bring to life, we knew that it was going to have an effect on the fans that were just like, ‘Oh my God!’ We heard them begging for it for so long. We’ve been wanting it for so long. It’s disappointing that it leaks. You hope that the fans that are so passionate about it really do their best to block it out so that they can go and get the movie and enjoy it.” The premature reveal of the cameo certainly hasn’t hurt interest in Black Adam, but I can’t help to imagine the reaction if the majority of audiences had absolutely no idea what was coming.
Jaume Collet-Serra directed Black Adam from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani. The long-belated superhero adventure stars Dwayne Johnson as Teth Adam, who was bestowed with the almight powers of the gods in ancient Kahndaq. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man, to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.
