Google currently pays Apple an estimated $15 Billion per year to place Google Search as the default search engine in Safari and across their range of devices.
Apple now has the product, technical and business skills to replace Google's search with their own in-house solution. And with over 20% of the global search traffic coming via Safari, Apple could seamlessly redirect all of this search traffic to their own default search (and CPC keyword-based advertising) solution.
It's estimated that this would redirect 20% of Google's $162 Billion search market to Apple with a simple update – or over $30 Billion annually – to an Apple owned search advertising product.
Can Apple continue to forgo this additional $15 Billion in potential revenue? If not, why not?
