American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) on Wednesday said it’s discussing an order for single-aisle jets with plane makers Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) and Boeing (NYSE:BA).
“We are talking to Boeing (BA) and Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) about our narrowbody aircraft needs for the latter half of this decade and beyond,” the carrier said in a statement cited by Reuters.
The comment followed a report by Bloomberg News that the airline is looking to buy at least 100 narrowbody planes as demand for travel soars. The order may exceed 200 jets with commitments for future purchases.
American (AAL) is looking at Boeing’s (BA) 737 Max and Airbus’s (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) A321neo to replace its 737-800, A319 and A320 later this decade, according to the report.
Boeing (BA) and Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) have worked to overcome a variety of constraints including supply-chain problems to boost deliveries of commercial planes.
