Football FanCast updates you on the latest Liverpool transfer news, with the Reds aiming to strengthen their midfield and defence, ahead of the new campaign in August.
Liverpool interested in Colwill
Liverpool Echo: Liverpool are interested in Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill, who spent last season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 20-year-old left-footed defender impressed during his season-long loan spell on the south coast and is now training with the England senior squad.
Chelsea reportedly need to ship out a lot of players, but any sale will depend on new boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has not yet made his intentions known.
Brighton recently saw a £30m bid for Colwill rejected and are reportedly ready to test Chelsea’s resolve with a second bid worth £40m.
Colwill has been named in the England Under-21 European Championship squad this summer.
Liverpool admirers of Palhinha
Mirror: Liverpool are admirers of Fulham midfielder João Palhinha.
The 20-cap Portugal international, who was signed from Sporting CP last summer in a deal worth £20m, does not have a release clause, contrary to reports.
West Ham United are also said to be interested in signing Palhinha to replace Declan Rice, who is expected to depart the Hammers and join London rivals Arsenal for a fee in excess of £100m.
Reds boss Jürgen Klopp was full of praise for the Whites midfielder after Liverpool’s close-fought 1-0 win last month.
“Defending the centre against Fulham is really important, because Palhinha is there. That’s their connector, to get on the ball,” the 55-year-old said.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave the Merseyside club upon the expiry of his contract and Naby Keita already out of the door, the need for a midfield overhaul is apparent with the transfer window opening this week.
